What you should know before turning 30
Aye! It's my birthday and honestly, I still don't get why they call it dirty thirty because I don't feel dirty at all lol. But honestly there are a lot of things I'm taking with me into this new milestone and I believe that this is something that most people especially women should know maybe even before they turn thirty. Before I get into it let me give you a little background. For those of you who already know my story, you can skip this part lol.
Being sexually abused took a toll on my self-esteem, relationships, and overall decision making. I was a young depressed girl who contemplated suicide not just because of the things that happened to me, but also a lot had to do with things that people have said about me and the names they called me from high school into adulthood. It wasn't until I was able to truly speak out on what happened to me, express how I felt about it, and realizing that I wasn't alone is when I was able to heal and with part of that healing, I was able to truly know who I was. Now I know that it may sound cliche but for so long the things people said about me is what I believed deep down. I allowed people opinions of me to have a lot of control over my life which in tune caused me to make decisions around those opinions.
I share this because I believe that I am not the only one who has gone through this. Especially nowadays with social media, it makes truly being yourself even harder because most people are trying to be the next thing that will get the likes. The main thing I want you to know before turning thirty is:
1.) Embrace Who You Are:
Love yourself, no one is perfect and understands that every day is another day to be better but in order to be better you have to know what to change and in order to change you must know who you are and embrace it.
2.) Go back to number one. LOL!
Seriously turning thirty still means you are an adult but in order to truly accomplish the goals on your "Things to do before you turn 30" list or any list of goals you may have, you must truly know and embrace who you are because that will help you know what you want, not what others want for you.
When I was finally able to understand this number one thing. The name calling and what others thought about me based on the things I've done didn't mean anything to me. People opinions about me actually made me laugh instead of cry because I had already know who I was and was living my life according to how I wanted and what I liked, which is the best way to live. I am going into thirty a free woman or as I like to call it an UNLEASHED woman, and I decided to express my freedom through photos with words in Creole and English.
